Introduction

Two post-doctoral positions and a PhD student position are open in the group of “Chemical Biology of Membrane Trafficking” at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology, Germany. Our group carries out interdisciplinary research in close collaboration with other groups in the MPI. One of the main interests of the group is a system that has been evaluated at the molecular level with the range of chemical, molecular biological, biophysical, and X-ray crystallographic techniques available concerns the role of the Rab family of small guanosine nucleotide binding proteins in the regulation of intracellular vesicular transport. Research projects are of biomedical relevance and pursue technological advancement, such as protein microarray and anti-cancer lead discovery in collaboration with the Dortmund-based Lead Discovery Center Inc.

Max-Planck Society is a world-leading research institution. MPS features in the first place of world institutions in the ranking of citation rates and gross influence. MPI for Molecular Physiology located in the technology park of Dortmund provides an international and dynamic research environment. Facilities include a center for automated cloning and protein expression, crystallization robots, home X-ray sources, and advanced microscopes (confocal, FLIM, TIRF)

Eligibility

  • For the post-doctoral positions, applicants must hold a PhD degree in biochemistry, cell biology, or related fields. A crystallographer with hands-on lab experience in protein crystallization and X-ray crystallography is required. A cell biologist with experience in live cell imaging would be an advantage.
  • For the PhD student position, applicants must hold a Master, Diploma or equivalent degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or related fields. Applications are welcome even if the required degree has not been awarded by the time of the application. It only has to be conferred before entering the program.
  • Highly qualified applicants for the PhD student position with a Bachelor degree may also be considered.
  • Applicants are expected to have good oral and written English skills. Knowledge of the German language is welcome but not essential.

Application

Applications including a CV, a cover letter outlining your interests and relevant work experience, list of publications and names and email addresses of two referees should be addressed to Yaowen Wu (yaowen.wu@mpi-dortmund.mpg.de).

E-mail applications are strongly encouraged. Include: “Postdoc or PhD position in MPI” into the subject.
